During my residency at the Albers Foundation, Bethany, Connecticut, I drew from Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy and looked at Morandi still lives and Goya. I also looked at Hiroshige's fan designs. Gradually I put Chinese marks into western pictorial space and found that the two languages merged.
